DESCRIPTION:Jack has been described as a rising star in British horticulture and is renowned for his exceptional knowledge of woody plants and his significant contributions to plant conservation\, research\, and education. \nIn fact\, he is the current holder of the 2025 RHS ROY LANCASTER AWARD in recognition of his outstanding contribution to horticulture. Having been interested in plants from a young age\, upon leaving school Jack applied for the prestigious Wisley Diploma course\, from which he graduated in 2022 before being taken on full-time. He later managed Oakwood at the same location\, demonstrating a level of expertise that sets him apart from many of his peers. His commitment to the propagation and conservation of rare and significant plants\, alongside his efforts to improve plant labelling and collection accuracy\, showcases his dedication. Jack’s work marks him as an exceptional young horticulturist and a leader of the next generation in the field.

DESCRIPTION:£5 none members \, free for members \n£1 for raffle tickets\, £1 for refreshments incl. cake \nMarina Christopher from Phoenix Perennial Plants will talk on Salvias. \nMarina lectures using live plant material as props rather than slides or Power Point. A special emphasis on reducing the amount of water used in the garden is particularly relevant with threats of water bans and climate change\, although in the past few years water has been abundant! \nMarina will bring plants and sundries for sale as well.

SUMMARY:Talk: Apples - speaker Chris Bird
DESCRIPTION:The Romsey Organic Gardeners (TROG) invite you to come along to a talk by Chris Bird from Sparsholt College on Apples.  Chris will discuss growing apples while coping with current challenging growing conditions.  There will also be a variety of apples to taste and if you have a surplus\,  please bring along some of your apples for others to try.  Chris will also run an “apple cultivar identification” surgery for anyone with an unknown apple tree in their garden. For this\, please bring along up to six fruits per tree\, showing the range of size and colouring\, together with some leaves and a short stem\, up to a foot long. Plus\, a couple of images of the whole tree\, if possible\, as will assist with identification. \nVisitors are welcome (pay £2.00 per person on the door) refreshments are included (tea\, coffee and biscuits). There is usually plenty of parking in the Crosfield Hall car park and it is free to park after 4pm.  The full address for sat navs is: Crosfield Hall\, Broadwater Rd\, Romsey SO51 8GL
