He started with a small nursery on the Isle of Wight and then joined the Hillier Gardens\, where he is now the botanist and plant records officer. \nAway from work he manages 5 National Plant Collections (4 will be on display at the meeting) of his own and has been a collection holder and Plant Heritage member since 2004. His plants are grown within his garden at home and a small woodland close by. He has promised to bring some Plants for Sale too. \n

DESCRIPTION:Grayshott Gardeners is delighted to welcome Stephen Anderton as our speaker this month.  Stephen is a Lecturer\, Author and Journalist at The Times.  Stephen trained as a professional gardener and lectures in the UK and abroad on plantsmanship\, garden design and garden restoration.  In 2025 he started to open his own garden with the National Garden Scheme\, New Inn Farm in Abergavenny\, Wales.  He is three-time winner of the Garden Writers’ Guild award and his books include Christopher Lloyd – His Life at Great Dixter\, the topic of our talk.   \nHall doors open at 7.15pm. \n\n\nMembers free\, visitors (always welcome) £5. SUMMARY:Hardy Plant Society\, Hampshire Group – Umbel….ievable Umbels! A talk about cow parsleys and their relatives.  Speaker – Marina Christopher
DESCRIPTION:We welcome Marina\, from Phoenix Perennial Plant Nursery\, to talk to us about the Aplaceae family\, or as we know them “umbellifers”. She studied Botany\, Marine Biology and Ecology\, followed by 3 years doing a postgraduate research\, before escaping the laboratory and getting outside to begin her new life as a nurseryman in 1984. She founded her own nursery in 2002 and is a major advocate for providing a balanced ecosystem to promote beneficial wildlife. Whilst she has won RHS medals in her own right\, she is well known for supplying the very best top garden designers with unusual plants\, for their award winning gardens at the Chelsea Flower Show and others. \nWith her table full of goodies\, she will use plant material to highlight the delights of umbels. As usual\, she will be bringing along some of her own plants so a wonderful opportunity to come along and see a very knowledgeable and entertaining speaker.
