The Garden at Malverleys – Speaker Mat Reese
Mat, Head Gardener of Malverleys, is coming to talk about this iconic garden in Hampshire. He started his apprentiship at Ness Botanic Garden, on the Wirral penninsular, before continuing at RHS Wisley and Kew. On completing his studies, he had a 6 year spell at Great Dixter with Christopher Lloyd and Fergus Garrett where he learnt how to combine plants. He also went on plant- finding expeditions to Europe, Asia and Africa to see how plants grow in the wild.
In 2010 he took up his position at Malverleys and, with his team of 5, has undertaken many changes within the garden. Whilst managing livestock on the estate (when I booked him he was feeding a bottle to a new born lamb!) he also has plans to introduce study days and accomodation for students, involving more young people in horticulture. So, life is never dull!
So why not come and see what a wonderful garden we have on our own doorsteps.
